Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival, Meet & Greet

Afternoon: Arrive at the designated Game Reserve within Kwa-Zulu Natal
– Welcome drink and settle into your accommodation
– Meet your PAWZ Africa and reserve hosts

Evening: Sunset Game Drive tracking elephants
– Search for the reserve’s elephant herd as rangers share their stories and challenges
– Overview of why elephant collaring is critical to their protection

Dinner: Fireside Dinner & Collaring Briefing
– Enjoy a traditional bush dinner under the stars
– Meet the vet and conservation team who will lead the darting operation
– Learn about collaring technology, tracking, and data-driven elephant management

Day 2: The Collaring Operation

Early Morning: Briefing on the day’s activities, safety protocols, and roles

Morning: Participate in the elephant collering process, which includes:
– Tracking and darting the elephant
– Assisting veterinarians with monitoring vital signs, collecting DNA samples, and fitting the satellite collar
– Learn about tusk health, herd dynamics, and GPS tracking

Afternoon: Free Time / Optional Activities
– Relax by the pool
– Enjoy a massage
– Take a short nature walk

Evening: Sunset Game Drive
– Bush drinks at a scenic lookout
– Conversation on broader elephant conservation in Africa

Dinner: Celebration Dinner & Certificate Ceremony
– Receive your “Elephant Guardian” Certificate of Impact
– Closing stories

Day 3: Tracking & Departure

Morning: Join a short drive to check GPS signals and locate the newly collared elephant

Late Morning: Breakfast & Final Reflections

Midday: Check-out and departure

Based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, the majority of our work takes place in this region. Our focus as the name suggests is towards Parks and Wildlife Zululand however upon invitation by other organisations and reserves we will assist on projects nationally.
