OUR STORY
Parks And Wildlife Zululand (PAWZ) started in 2014 with a simple idea shared around a firepit: to create a non-commercial online platform where anyone could share pictures, stories, and news about their adventures in the beautiful nature reserves and wildlife parks of KZN’s Zululand region. Hence our Facebook page – Parks and Wildlife – Zululand (PAWZ)
Our success is thanks to our amazing Admin members who have been dedicated since day one. They make sure posts stay on topic and keep things exciting with fun weekly themes to get everyone involved.
In 2020, during the height of COVID-19, a member’s question led to the creation of our Non-Profit Company, PAWZ Africa. This member saw a social media post about a K-9 anti-poaching unit in Zululand that urgently needed dog food and asked, “Can’t PAWZ, with its 14k+ dedicated members, do something to help?” And so, we did!
Now, we’re focused on working with larger, established Non-Profits wherever possible. We’re also promoting and raising funds for some of our own conservation initiatives.
WHO WE ARE
PAWZ Africa is a South African non-profit that helps govern conservation projects and restore natural habitats.
We oversee practical, on the ground programmes that:
- Rebuild ecosystems and manage water and fire sustainably
- Strengthen wildlife protection
- Support ethical, non-consumptive tourism
- Create jobs, develop skills, and grow local economies
Our goal is simple — to help communities and conservation thrive together.
HOW WE WORK
We act as a catalyst, bringing people and funding together to deliver measurable impact.
- Source & vet – We identify high-impact conservation and community projects, run due diligence, and agree on clear outcomes and budgets.
- Ring-fence & administer – Funds are ring-fenced to approved work streams. We handle disbursements, procurement oversight, and compliance.
- Monitor & verify – We track delivery against KPIs with site visits, media evidence, and beneficiary sign-off. Variances trigger corrective action.
- Report & audit – Donors receive plain-English reports, spend breakdowns, impact metrics, and a tidy audit trail.
- Close-out & scale – We document lessons, publish results, and line up the next phase for projects that earn it.
Every donation is ring-fenced for a specific programme. Funds are released in tranches once milestones are verified, and we provide ESG reports with financials, KPIs, and on-the-ground results. An independent audit is carried out each year for added assurance.
GOVERNANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY
We follow strict controls to protect both donors and beneficiaries:
- Separation of duties and documented procedures
- Conflict-of-interest and data protection policies
- Section 18A tax certificates and B-BBEE SED/ESD letters (where applicable)
We measure what truly matters – from ecological health and wildlife protection to job creation, training, and local procurement.
OUR PARTNERSHIP APPROACH
We are partner-centric, supporting community trusts, tourism operators, and training providers rather than replacing them.
Our programmes are built for long-term sustainability, reducing donor dependence as local income grows.
As a funder, you’ll receive:
- Opportunities for virtual or in-field visits
- A one-page programme brief with budget and KPIs
- A simple MoU outlining milestones and recognition
- Regular progress updates
Our Promise
Clear, transparent, and auditable stewardship from pledge to impact.
OUR LEADERS
PAWZ members are all Volunteers excited by getting our hands dirty in the pursuit of conserving the great outdoors in it’s most natural form and protecting the wildlife that inhabits it.

SUPPORTING WILDLIFE IN KWAZULU-NATAL
Based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, the majority of our work takes place in this region. Our focus as the name suggests is towards Parks and Wildlife Zululand however upon invitation by other organisations and reserves we will assist on projects nationally.
We are always on the lookout for new opportunities to partner with companies and wildlife areas to help grow conservation. We would love for you to get in touch if we can partner together.
