Game counts are an essential tool in reserve management. They provide critical data for maintaining a balance between animal populations and vegetation, and in larger reserves, between predators and prey. Tala carries out an annual Game census which our PAWZ volunteers like to assist with.
Project Plan:
- Perform annual game counts using multiple methods:
- Vehicle-based road counts
- Gather data on species distribution and population sizes.
- Analyze findings to inform reserve management decisions.
Goals:
- Maintain ecological balance.
- Adapt management strategies based on wildlife population trends.
Results:
- Effective data collection methods established at Tala Collection Game Reserves.
- Insights gained into animal-vegetation balance.
